Crime Scene Recovery FAQs
Biohazard Cleanup Throughout the SoutheastHow soon can you respond to a trauma scene cleanup request?
We will always answer the phone 24/7/365. In most cases, we can arrive at the site within 1 to 2 hours — no later than 24 hours from your call. You’ll never reach an answering service or call center.
Who pays for your services?
The property owner is ultimately responsible. However, because insurance companies define contamination as structural damage, most homeowners and business insurance will pay for biohazard remediation. In some states, surviving family members who meet specific criteria qualify for victim’s assistance.
Why call a professional company?
Hiring Carolina Crime Scene Recovery removes the property owner’s liability in two ways. First, we’re the only bio-recovery firm in the nation founded by a veteran CSI. That means we’re more accustomed to working with law enforcement and surviving family members. Our investigative expertise gives us an advantage no other bio-recovery firm possesses.
Second, we’re trained in waste removal, working with quaternary and anti-microbial chemicals, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Most cleaning and restoration firms are not.
When should I call for biohazard cleanup?
If you see bodily fluids or blood, you need professional biohazard cleanup. When faced with a traumatic event, such as a suicide, unattended death, or homicide, a trauma scene cleanup company will remove biohazards and disinfect the area. Sometimes law enforcement or government agencies will recommend that you hire a professional trauma cleaning company.
Remember that blood and bodily fluids can harbor dangerous pathogens that will multiply if left untreated. A biohazard removal team will restore the site to a safe, habitable environment.
Why can’t I disinfect the area myself?
Trauma scene cleanup requires professional disinfection and complete removal of all biological material and residue. If you were to test the area for cell activity, including bloodborne pathogens after general cleaning, you would be shocked to find hazardous residue left behind.
Biological material poses significant health hazards and can potentially lead to disease outbreaks if allowed to remain at the site. The pathogens responsible for these communicable diseases are invisible. You could miss entire sections of affected surfaces. Additionally, the cleaning solution you choose might not be adequate to kill these pathogens.
Are there state or federal laws that require professional bio-recovery?
Yes. Federal regulation 29CFR1910.1030 states that before an employer can send an employee to clean blood and body fluids, the employer must first:
- Provide Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP) training.
- Provide a written BBP Exposure Control Plan.
- Provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Offer the Hepatitis B vaccine and medical follow-up.
- Provide a method for disposal of biohazard waste.
Not meeting these criteria may result in hefty fines, lawsuits by employees, and possible workers compensation claims filed against the employer.
How do you charge for your services?
We follow the crime scene clean-up section in the latest edition of the “BlueBook Cost Guide for Cleaning, Reconstruction, and Repair.” This guide is the international standard for the cleaning industry. Our pricing is structured and consistent, not made up.
We provide a free on-site assessment and estimate within a 50-mile radius of our firm. We photograph the scene before, during, and after the cleaning process. When complete, you will receive a detailed report and a detailed invoice. Our clients are able to see exactly what we do.
Why should I choose Crime Scene Recovery?
We are the only certified bio-recovery firm in the nation founded by a veteran crime scene investigator (CSI). Our founder, Brian Yarborough, worked 18 years in law enforcement; the last 12 as a CSI with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office in Greensboro, NC.
Trained in crime scene photography and blood spatter interpretation, Mr. Yarborough is a licensed private investigator, forensic consultant, and court-certified expert witness. We conduct biohazard removal with meticulous attention to detail, eradicating the site of biohazards and dangerous pathogens.
Above and beyond trauma scene cleanup, with over 2000 CSI investigations under his belt, Brian understands the sensitive nature of these traumatic and devastating events.
That’s why his phone never goes unanswered. When looking for a company that cleans up crime scenes, you need an immediate and caring response, not an answering machine.
He also understands he has a more profound responsibility — empathy and support. Amid the chaos lies a family, a business, a community, or an individual grieving and in pain. So, he puts your needs and safety — physical and emotional — first and foremost.
Who will come to my home to clean up biohazards?
Are there laws for biohazard remediation?
Crime scene cleanup is not a federally regulated industry; however, standards, guidelines, restrictions, and regulations exist.
We follow these guidelines at every biohazard removal site.
- CDC and NIOSH guidelines for the treatment of biological material and blood
- ANSI/IICRC S540 trauma and crime scene cleanup standards
- Federal OSHA and NIOSH recommendations and requirements for safety and training
- EPA, DOT, OSHA, and state environmental agency standards for handling, packaging, labeling, maintaining manifests, transporting, and disposing of medical waste
Additionally, we are fully licensed, bonded, and insured.
How do you clean the site?
Biohazard remediation involves rules, regulations, and guidelines designed to protect individuals and communities from health disasters. It requires specialized personal protective equipment (PPE), professional expertise, and certifications indicating adherence to safety standards outlined by governmental authorities such as OSHA.
We begin the process with an assessment to determine best practices for the unique challenges presented. A key component to trauma scene cleanup is to contain the areas affected to prevent cross-contamination. We remove the blood and biological material and all residue. Then we’ll disinfect and deodorize to bring the site back to a safe, habitable environment.
